Floyd’s Climbers &ClematisNote: Floyd’s Climbers and Clematis are no longer holding an Open Day on 16th September; however, Marcel Floyd has very kindly agreed to open up especially for our group visit.
Floyd’s Climbers & Clematis has been going since 1992, growing clematis as well as some other climbers. They attend most of the large horticultural shows and have won many medals for their displays. https://floydsclematisandclimbers.co.uk/
After we have visited Floyd’s Climbers, we will travel 25 minutes down the road to Whitehall Garden Centre. We can have lunch here – either bring your own or buy from their café. This is a huge garden centre with everything in it garden related.
Then just 30 minutes along the road is Avebury Henge and Stone Circles. We will pass a white horse en route. If you haven’t been before, this is FREE and a magical place where you can walk along the bank and ditch. You can even hug the stones if you like! There is also a large barn with displays and an historic house and church to visit, but you need to pay on entry.
It will be about 1.5 hours return to Bream from Avebury Henge, depending on the route and traffic. Transport: Car share. This event is free but some drivers may appreciate a fuel contribution.
Please book and indicate if you can offer a lift or require one. In the event of enough members booking, we will look into coach hire but this would incur a cost. Time: Meet at Floyd’s Climbers in good time for a 10am start.
Directions to Floyd’s Climbers: Severn Bridge; M4 then take junction 17 onto the A350; going around, take the A420; then A4 to near our destination.
Following the success of the BGS flower arranging workshop earlier in the Summer, Alwyn Page has very kindly agreed to run a 5 week beginners course for us this Autumn. These will be practical, hands-on classes and each week you should be able to take home a completed design. No experience is necessary for these beginners classes; however, we would welcome those wanting to refresh their skills too. This course will run on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 – 9.30pm at St. James’ Church Centre, Bream. Don’t worry, the dates of these classes won’t clash with our regular BGS meetings: September 19th & 26th, October 3rd, 17th & 24th. Subject to demand, Alwyn will then run a further 5 week course concentrating on Festive Arrangements. The cost per student for the full 5 week course is £45. This fee includes tuition, light refreshment and a weekly handout. In order to keep the fee as low as possible, students will need to supply their own materials. Booking is essential.
