September 2025

Hello everyone.
Firstly, Thank you all very much for helping to make the Summer Show memorable. Many people took advantage of a lovely day to come along and help celebrate 160th Annual Summer Show. Congratulations to the class winners, the cup winners and all the exhibitors who took the trouble to enter the show. So many people went the ‘extra mile’ to make the day such a success but Louise and her team did a fabulous job for Battle of the Villages, where Bream won the best display. Louise has asked me to thank everyone who donated fruit, vegetables, flowers etc. for the display. Thank you to the other villages for taking part. Many thanks to everyone who supported and sponsored the show, far too many to mention individually, but a special thanks to Bream Band for their splendid entertainment and to Bill Parker for bringing along his marvelous steam engine “Mr Bill”.

We were delighted to see the number of exhibits, much higher than last year – just as well that we ordered the larger marquee. What a magnificent display, the standard and quality of the exhibits improves year on year. Many games and the wonderful tea tent were all very much appreciated. So to everyone involved a HUGE THANK YOU.

For those who couldn’t make it on the day, I’m putting on here a few of my photos of some of the class winners. Several people asked me ‘what is the long truncheon’ – the exhibitor explained its a gourd. So now you know!

EVENTS
Saturday 6th September meet at 3.00pm at the Kingston Brewery
Please note there is a change to the original programme:
We are no longer going to Susan Young at The Fence as she says her beans are all harvested (3 week early) and the meadow mown. However we are still going to see the exciting new project near Tintern where Matt and Freyja have taken up the Welsh Government “One Planet” scheme. They are building a straw bale house with everything else needed to be totally self sufficient and carbon free. They have already planted a large area of every type of fruit tree to see what survives and have a small veg patch. They welcome any advice as what will grow and produce a harvest. Meet at Kingston Brewery where we can park and use their facilities then a short walk down the track to the large plot.
Entrance opposite Tintern Station, take the right hand track, left leads to the Wye Valley Sculpture garden which is also open if anyone wishes to visit first.
Brockweir & Hewelsfield have their show that afternoon, if anyone would like to pop in en route to our trip.
