January 2025

Hello everyone

By the time you see this, Christmas will be just a memory and we will be starting out on a new year. Golly, that makes me feel old!!!

I expect most of you have had some challenges over the last 12 months, I know I have. But now is the time to wipe the slate clean and start all over. New year, new start is my motto.

But before that, a reminder of what a remarkable year it has been, I would like to thank everyone who has helped to keep this illustrious Society going. Many thanks for the tireless work of your Committee, who have put in countless hours of their time and energies. Thanks also to the many volunteers, exhibitors, judges and visitors who made the shows so special. The shows were record breaking and we are planning some lovely events for this year too. It’s the 160th year of BGS. What an achievement!

Jane advised me that “IT’S SNOWDROP TIME” again ~ in the green, same as last year, in bags of 100 (although she can split one if you’d only like 50) Sadly, they’ve gone up (what hasn’t!) so 100 for £11, will probably cover it ~ she’ll need at least 10 orders of 100 to get them at that price. E-mail her: jane@janemcarr.co.uk or phone 01594 780284 ~ Jane :)”

As is customary, there is no meeting in January. We need a little break and will come back strong again in February.

Tuesday 11th February – ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. – 7.30 pm. Venue to be confirmed.
More details in the next newsletter. The programme of BGS events for 2025 will be available then.

Tuesday 11th March – ANNUAL MEAL will be at The Miners Arms, Whitecroft.
Menu choices, dietary preferences and the booking form will be available at the AGM in February.
No doubt there will be emails wafting about too.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Bring & Share Supper in December.

Its been so very cold and damp recently and not at all encouraging to venture out into the garden so I guess we will just have to study the seed catalogues and plan our planting programme. No doubt the weather will improve, and there is a slight improvement in the length of the days already.
Of course a nice option would be to simply sit by the fire and do nothing? …and why not?

So all that’s left is for me – on behalf of all your friends at BGS – to wish you a happy and healthy new year and the very best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

Best wishes

Margaret
