Hello everyone
Well what a month we have had for mixed weather? Its been quite mild but sometimes wild and wet. Do you remember that a few years ago we had snow on show day in October? No doubt we will get some work done outside at some point.
Don’t forget to plant some hyacinths for Christmas/new year flowering indoors. Its time to plant daffodils, crocus etc. outside, but leave the tulips for another 2 or 3 weeks. Have you tried planting spring bulbs in hanging baskets. They need not be restricted to summer planting. I think most of the supermarkets have good value bulbs available – that is if you don’t want to be tempted at the garden centres.

TALK: Barks, Stems & Evergreens for the Winter Garden – Duncan Coombs
After over 40 years working at Pershore College, Duncan retired as a Lecturer in Decorative Horticulture. He is an enthusiastic RHS Garden Advisor, keen plant hunter and author. Duncan’s second book, The Complete Guide to Compact Trees and Shrubs for the Garden, was published last year
The Forest Food Network (Forest Voluntary Action Forum) is looking for some more Eco School monitors to provide additional support to schools being funded by Forest of Dean District Council to take part in the Eco Schools Green Flag programme. The role would suit anyone with an interest in the environment, biodiversity, climate change, or experience of education and good listening skills. Time-wise, it will involve supporting the school anywhere between 2 – 4 hours a month until the end of the current school year. For queries, please contact breamgardeningsociety@gmail.com
POSTER*
I have added a copy of the poster for the show. It would be very helpful if you can print off a copy and display it for us. Publicity is so important when putting on events. We need boots on the ground!!
*The poster is not available in this archive format, please see you personal email copy of this newsletter for both the poster and an Autumn Show update.
In the meantime, have a good time and I hope you are keeping well. See you at the show.
Best wishes
Margaret
